It is through these archives, Future Home suggests, that humanity will survive climate catastrophe.

Through main character Cedar's archival tendencies and speculations on the body's propensity to store data and memories from bygone eras of human history, Future Home reorients our understandings of the importance of the archive and the importance of the body as a storehouse of knowledge and a living archive. Instead, Future Home sets us to thinking about creating new Native archives, as well as expanding our understanding of the archive to encompass the body as archive. This archive cannot continue to ascribe to conservative notions of the archive. However, Louise Erdrich's newest novel, Future Home of the Living God (2017), argues that the archive is not only of worth but perhaps necessary for our survival.

Abstract: In a time of oncoming climate catastrophe, the notion of the archive may seem frivolous to many.
